Terms of use
Effective 30 September 2026
These terms apply when you use Kitchen Squirrel, the app and this website. By signing in you agree to them. If you were already using Kitchen Squirrel before 30 September 2026, they apply to you from that date. How we use your data is in our privacy policy.
Who we are
Kitchen Squirrel is provided by Telescope Investing Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 13821866, registered office The Coach House, Dartford Road, Bexley DA5 2AS, United Kingdom. Email us at hello@kitchensquirrel.com.
Who can use Kitchen Squirrel
- You must be 18 or over to start a household.
- Someone younger may use the app only as a member of a household an adult has invited them into, and must be at least 13. The adult who invites them agrees to these terms for them and is responsible for how they use it. We suggest the View only role.
- You need your own email address, and you're responsible for keeping it secure.
We may close an account we believe breaks these rules.
Your household
Everything in Kitchen Squirrel belongs to a household. The household's Manager decides who is in it and what role each person has, and can remove a member. Members who can edit can change the household's recipes, plans and lists. View only members can see them but not change them.
What others can see
- What you add — recipes, notes, photos, plans and lists — is seen by the members of your household. Your name appears next to your ratings, notes and votes.
- A share link shows only the recipe's source details: its original title, times, servings, website, the creator's name there, a link to the original, and a card the app makes from those. It never shows your notes, edits, photos or ratings, and it never says who sent it.
- Discover lists recipes from public websites that households have saved: title, picture link, times, servings, the creator's name and the source only, with totals such as how many kitchens saved it. It never shows who saved it.
- There are no profiles, messages, comments or searching for people.
We can see household data when we need to run the service, deal with a report or keep it safe. The privacy policy says more.
What's not allowed
Don't add, share or link to:
- anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, threats, or intimate images of someone shared without their consent;
- hate, harassment or bullying aimed at a person or group;
- sexual or pornographic content, or content promoting gambling;
- anything harmful to children, such as content promoting self-harm, suicide or eating disorders (households can include younger members);
- content that isn't yours to share or that breaks someone else's rights;
- spam, scams, malware or phishing links;
- anything pretending to be someone else.
And don't misuse the app:
- don't get round its limits or safety checks;
- don't use a modified app, or automated tools, to reach our service;
- don't upload a share card the app didn't make;
- don't do anything that harms or overloads the service or other people using it.
How we keep sharing safe
These checks run automatically each time a share link is made or opened. They match website addresses and words, not people.
- We check the recipe's website with Cloudflare's family filter (adult and malware sites), against published lists of gambling, fraud, scam and drugs sites, and against sites we have blocked ourselves. A site that fails can't be shared.
- We check recipe titles and creators' names against a list of words, and don't show one that fails.
- A title from a website we haven't seen before is hidden, and the page shows "A shared recipe", until enough households have used the site or we've checked it. Posts on the big social platforms are checked by the word filter only.
- Share links can't be guessed and aren't listed by search engines, and how often links can be made and opened is limited.
We also act on reports.
Reporting a problem
- On a recipe, use Report a problem to report the recipe, its photo or a member's note.
- On a shared recipe, use Report in the app, or Report this page on the web page. You don't need an account for that.
- Or email hello@kitchensquirrel.com.
We keep the reason, what you wrote and a copy of what was reported. We look at every report, normally within 3 working days, and sooner when someone could be harmed.
Blocking
When another household sends you a link, you can block shares from it. Its links stop opening on your household's phones, and it isn't told. Nothing from a share is added to your library unless you choose to save it.
What we can do
If content or behaviour breaks these terms or the law, we may hide a recipe, remove a photo or note, take down a share link, remove a recipe from Discover, stop a household sharing, remove a member from a household, or suspend or close an account or household. We act on reports and on what we find ourselves. We may act without warning when someone could be harmed. We apply these rules the same way to everyone.
Complaints and appeals
Email hello@kitchensquirrel.com if you want to complain about something in the app, about how we handled a report, or about something we did to your content or account — for example, removing a photo, suspending your account or stopping your sharing. Tell us what happened and what you'd like us to look at. We'll look again, and reply by email with what we decided and why.
Your content and other people's
You own what you add. You let us store it, process it and show it to your household so the app works, and only for that. You can remove it at any time.
Recipes you save from websites belong to their creators. The app keeps them for your household's own use and always links back to the original. We don't copy pictures from their websites or republish their recipes; Discover and share links show only the source's details and a link. A dish picture you keep from your own screenshot stays in your household only. If you're a creator or rights holder and want something removed from Discover or a share page, email hello@kitchensquirrel.com and we'll act promptly.
Recipes, estimates and your own judgement
- Recipes are read automatically from other people's websites, text and photos, and may contain mistakes. Check ingredients, quantities, allergens and cooking before you rely on them.
- Macros are estimates, not measurements, and not medical or dietary advice.
- Eat-by dates in the Stash are your own. The app doesn't tell you what is safe to eat.
- We don't control the websites recipes link to.
Kitchen Squirrel Pro
The free app covers the whole loop: saving recipes, planning, shopping, cooking and households, with a monthly number of smart captures (recipes read by AI) shown in the app. Pro adds the features listed on the Pro sheet in the app, such as unlimited smart captures, saved weeks, macros estimates and your own photos on recipes.
- Who it covers. One person buys Pro and everyone in their household gets it. The purchase belongs to that person and moves with them if they change household.
- Monthly and Annual. You pay the price Google Play shows when you buy. The subscription renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. If an offer includes a free trial, Google Play shows its length before you buy, and you're charged when it ends unless you cancel first.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions). Pro carries on to the end of the period you've paid for, then stops.
- Founders'. Pay once, Pro for life: one payment, and you won't be charged for Pro again. It is Pro for the life of your account. It belongs to the person who bought it, covers the household they are in, and moves with them. It can't be moved to another person, and it ends if you delete your account.
- If Pro ends, your household keeps everything it made, including photos already added.
- Payment and refunds. You buy Pro through Google Play, or through the App Store once the iPhone app is available. Google (or Apple) takes the payment, and you can ask it for a refund under its own policy. You can also come to us.
- If Pro doesn't work. If Pro doesn't work as described, email us. We'll fix it, or if we can't, give you some or all of your money back, as UK consumer law requires.
- Changing your mind. You can cancel a new subscription or a Founders' purchase within 14 days of buying it by emailing us. Pro starts as soon as you buy it, so we'll refund the price less a fair amount for the days you've already had.
- This doesn't affect your legal rights.
Deleting your account
Follow the steps at kitchensquirrel.com/delete-account. We confirm by email and delete within 30 days.
- If others remain in your household, your email, name, sign-in records, and your ratings and their notes go. The household's recipes, plans and lists stay with them. If you're the only Manager, make someone else Manager first.
- If you're the last member, the whole household goes: recipes, plans, lists, photos and cookbooks.
- Deleting your account doesn't stop the store charging you. Cancel a subscription in Google Play (or the App Store) first. A Founders' purchase ends with the account.
- Some records are kept, such as purchase records, which the law requires. The privacy policy lists them.
You can also stop using Kitchen Squirrel at any time.
Changes to the app and these terms
We may change these terms when the law changes, when the app gains or loses features, or when we need to deal with abuse or a safety problem. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using the app and delete your account; if you've paid for Pro and a change leaves you worse off, email us.
Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that isn't foreseeable. The app is for household use, so we're not responsible for business losses.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.
Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
